"Outstanding player."
Pros: HDMI Upconverting,inexpensive,grea t audio
Cons: A little on the big side.
Summary: My Panasonic f87 finally quit on me after three years of hard use. I am not ready to choose between bluray and hddvd so I went with the next best thing. I researched all the upconverting dvd players out there. And for the price I paid under 100, and the features I chose the Denon DVD-557. Beleive me I have tried many dvd players in the past. For the money you get everything you need to watch a great dvd. Right now I am just using progressive scan which is wonderful but I saw this player demo'd with the hdmi and it was close to blu ray quality. I also wanted to make sure I got DTS which not many player at this price point have. Also you really can't go wrong if you but a Denon anything. Great company. Denon, Onkyo, and Yahmaha top three in the audio industry.
I cannont stress enough how this player has totally impressed me with its picture and audio. If you are in need of a player and have an HDTV but are not ready to invest in blu or HD get this one you will not be dissapointed. I can honestly say this is the best buy I have made in a long time.
