"Don't buy it -- get anything else instead...seriouslym go buy underwear" on by Joe-Schmoe
Pros: None -- see Cons. It sucks.
Cons: Everything
Summary: In a nutshell, this product is a total piece of crap. Rather than deal with returning something I got mail-order I opted to destroy this hunk of garbage in my back yard.
After the number of hours it took to get the horrificly bad server side running on a PC, I then ran into problems with the GoVideo box itself. Let's not even get to how bad the remote is.
Save your money.
One of these days some manufacturer will make one of these media units that is ready for prime time, no one hold your breath.

"Product works, sounds, looks great!" on by brentew
Pros: Easy setup, excellent audio and video
Cons: GoVideo Support
Summary: This is a great product at a low price. I use it with XGA projector and high-end audio. Works as advertised, easy to set up, and has incredible audio and video quality. I would buy another in an instant.
This is one of those great products that slips under the radar of most folks.Updated
Go Video support continues to be pathetic. No updates, no response to emails. As of late 2005, I'd look at other Media Players - there are newer, better supported units available now. -
"Nice but on my second one and frustrated!" on by tadams47
Pros: nice idea and worked well in the beginning
Cons: after about a year or so - the DVD becomes dysfunctional
Summary: I bought one early on but after about a year keep getting DVD errors. I like the idea of both DVD and VCR - but when the DVD becomes problematic - then there is not much you can do. When I bought a new TV and thought I would give the GO.Video another chance - here I am writing this because after 1 1/2 years I am getting DVD errors and can't seem to play anything. I would like a unit that last longer than a year and I didn't check reviews when I bought it the first time. Nice idea - but frustration sets in soon because the DVD doesn't last long!

"Works . . .workaround required" on by mwrobinson
Pros: Plays DVDs OK
Cons: Mediaserver software is worthless
Summary: If you get this DVD player, do not use the included media server. It is worthless. It crashes the DVD player randomly. I use it with the wireless and have heard that the wired connection works better. Try the TwonkyVision Music Server. I left it playing for over 24 hours with no lock-ups at all. Tech support has me stuck in a feedback loop and thinks the FAQ will solve all my problems.

"Great concept; good features...now if it only worked..." on by sumagra
Pros: Friendly Tech Support, Relatively fast set-up (if you follow the set-up guide); Great price (under $90) at e-cost.com.
Cons: I am on my 3rd unit. Something or the other has been defective on all three.
Summary: Purchased mine new 7 weeks ago. The DVD player worked fine(though it doesn't play music cd's burned on my computer) but it couldn't locate the internal network card to connect to my home network. After calling tech support and slowly getting bumped up to someone familiar with this (new) product, he gave me an RMA number. The replacement unit arrived and wouldn't even power up!! Got another RMA number. The third unit arrived and quickly recognized my network. I played some music etc. Then found out the DVD player doesn't work. The "loading" messagekept circulating but it couldn't read any cd's or dvd's. I am waiting for my fourth unit. I've requested them (again) to please test it before shipping it to me. I'm still hopeful. Maybe hope-FOOL (ha, ha!)
Updated
11/9/05: Well I got my 4th unit from them and it seems to be working fine. It's been almost 3 weeks now. The remote is a little hard to operate thought--must press the buttons completely down, and the remote must be aimed directly at the unit. Otherwise, I like it.
