Pros user friendly in all disc formats
Cons little bit noisey
Summary I purchased this from Costco for 109.99 due to the fact that my 500.00 JVC unit "died"on me.It is so easy-formats discs automatically and the remote is simple and easy to use.I have it hooked up through my cable dvr HD box so I can record anything that's on TV-"anything".Also the HD programs look really good during playback.Eventhough the name isn't well known I would strongly recomend this recorder and would buy another in a heartbeat.
Pros Plays DivX/mpeg video files and mp3/jpeg files, plays all disc types, "hackable" firmware, Just Fit technology
Cons Cannot record audio on CD-R or CD-RW, remote control key layout is not great
Summary The DivX capability of the recorder/player is really useful. About the only thing I wish this recorder would do is record audio on CD-R...
If desired, you can "hack" the firmware for this DVD recorder by using "ILO / LiteOn SMART Firmware Hacker". The hack will disable Macrovision and will set the unit to be Region Free. Download the latest firmware (www.liteonamericas.com/us/download_dvd.htm), hack the firmware file, burn the firmware on a CD, and follow the on-screen prompts to update your firmware! I've updated my firmware two times already as Lite-On has released two updated firmware versions since I obtained my recorder at the end of last year.
As far as I can tell, there is no difference between the LVW-5115GHC+ and the LVW-5116GHC+. Both models use the same firmware version.
Pros Plays all formats I have tried, even downloaded .avi
Cons No problems found
Summary I have had this recorder for a year and am very happy with it. Would definitely buy another just like it. This unit plays DVDs that my other units will not. This is the Brand to buy for quality and ability to do the job every time. Setup and use is easy. Sound and video are good. Appears that the ability to last is here too. Easy to work into your Home Theater layout and the price is cheap compared to other brands.
"Waste of Money"on by Endallian
Pros None Cheap garbage
Cons Broke after 15 uses Junk
Summary I have used lite on for years
after my last 2 purchases I will never buy from them again
this worked for a very a short time and then it was trash
what a waste of my time and money.
lite on in my opinion has sold out and gone for the quick money ...another sad corporate story of greed.
Pros Worked great (initially). Has its own timer and tuner.
Cons Drive went bad after a year. Out of warranty.
Summary After a year, it will only record on "RW" discs, not regular "R" discs. When I put in any type of "R", it will do the initial scan, stop at 27%, then eject the disc. Phone tech support is a pay per minute. $1.99 per minute for tech support? That's wrong! On-line tech support said to clean it and reset defaults. Other than that, it's "defective". No kidding. They won't even sell me a replacement drive. When it works it's great. Once it's out of warranty, do not expect any help from Lite-On.
