Pros It's cheap but you get what you pay for.
Cons Way to many to list.
Summary Product worked great for about a week. After that it would occasionally lock up and put the same line over and over again across the television screen. I would unplug the unit then it would work again for a little while. Shortly after that it quit working at all. Customer support was terrible and wanted me to pay $50 to fix an item that cost $50 to begin with. Think twice before you consider buying this item
Pros Low profile, easy to set up, black color, HDMI output, cheap price around black Friday 2008. Unit purchased at Radio Shack. Radio Shack may or may not take it back for 90 days after purchase. Ask before finalizing purchase.
Cons Small cheap remote control. Buttons on the small side. Cheap price around black Friday. Unit now hangs during playback & then freezes. I had to cycle power by unplugging to get it to give my DVD back.
Summary Cheap price yet cheap quality. Definitely not worth current (6/2009) retail of around $43.55 - $49.99. Purchased as a "blue ray band aid." A basic unit. I generally expect a "device" such as this to last 12 months or so. (note to readers, I did not write this review until the device failed.) How many of us write a review on a unit that is working perfectly? Still, I think Memorex-Imation missed the mark on this one.
Pros Worked most of the time for a few years. Has USB & SD card slots on front. Plays some movie formats and JPEGs from front. Was cheap on black Friday.
Cons Must turn off subtitles every time (and it usually chooses Spanish or French). Locks up and sometimes just does not respond to remote. Not enough buttons on unit itself to use wo/remote. Forgets position in movie when off. Won't open until ready.
Summary Is this what Memorex puts out? Maybe it has bad caps which many companies suffered from, but I thought that was a few years earlier. I'll avoid Memorex.
Pros it was cheap and great for as long as it lasted
Cons loud mechanical noise, and has no power off switch on the unit
Summary I was so excited to get this product, since it was very slick and cheap and HDMI, it worked perfect for three weeks, then it would say loading whenever I put a DVD and won't play saying no disc, so it has a very short life.
Pros It plays DVDS for a couple of months
Cons Freezes up after a few months of use. Can't turn the subtitles off permanently - have to turn them off manually on every DVD. Can't even access the menu that contains the subtitles.
Summary I do not recommend this DVD player. Total waste of money. I will go back to purchasing only SONY products. I've never had a problem with them and I've definitely gotten my money's worth before they finally gave out. Memorex customer service (which wasn't very friendly) kept wanting me to "reset" the machine, which never worked. Not happy at all with the customer service. I wanted to return the DVD immediately. I wish I had just taken it back to the store to begin with. Now it's too late - I tried and they won't return or exchange it. Emailed Memorex 3 days ago to get information regarding exchanging the DVD through them and haven't received a response yet. They have very limited business hours - which correspond to my working hours. Total waste of money.
