"Feature Packed DVD Player, a few issues" on by drummer_for_halo
Pros: *Plays EVERYTHING (besides bluray)
*Many connection options
*Very open-ended controls
*Looks sharp
*Cool FeaturesCons: *Many features aren't the best quality
*Audio a bit dull
*Loud vibrating noise sometimes, balance issues
*Freezes occasionaly
*Skips and locks up very easily with dirty discsSummary: The greatest thing about this DVD player is the amount of features that are packed into it. It plays almost every format you can think of below blu-ray. It has an large array of connection options for any setup. The setup menu is pretty user-friendly with a lot of settings to tweak. The user manual is very in depth and informative. Packing was top notch. Cool remote.
I do have a few complaints. One of the main reasons I bought this model was to use the SACD and DVD-A features. These provide super high quality audio and sometimes in surround sound. It does play these discs, but the audio quality is not great. It is in surround sound when available, but it's the quality is lacking. My normal Sony Cd changer from about 10 years ago sounds waaay better. I compare this to buying a guitar effects pedal that has 100s of effects built into it, but they're all kind of crappy versions. The DV-970H plays the formats, just not at a high quality. As for during movies, the audio sounds great, but I don't have much to compare it to, it's my only DVD player.
The other complaint I have is that my player has developed a vibration issue. I baby my equipment, so it has not been damaged. About a year after I bought the DV-980H it started occasionally making a loud hum vibrating noise while reading discs. Sometimes it only does this when first reading the disc or on the menu and it will stop once playing the actual movie. However, is sometimes does this through the whole movie, which can be heard in the really quiet parts of movies. I would be interested to know if anyone else has experienced this issue.
