"Amazing value." on by cas61
Pros: Great sound, plays everything, cheap, progressive scan
Cons: A little long on dvd-a load times
Summary: I picked this player up on ebay for 55 dollars to do a comparison of SACD to DVD-A. This was done for the University of Pittsburgh. I am very impressed. Hooked it up with Blue Jeans Cables into a McIntosh C26 preamp and a 2105 poweramp. This went into a pair of ML 10C speakers. Let me tell you, the quality is amazing in all formats. CDs are brought to such a level, that without the multichannel capability, DVD-A and SACD are almost pointless. Lots of Customability in speaker settings and everything. I am very impressed. In addition, I have heard that this is a true DSD machine when used in stereo mode. The DV-578a is supposed to not be. So I would recommend getting this one.

"SACD worth buying CDs again" on
Pros: Cheapest way to enter the SACD arena - no reason to spend more. If you are even thinking about SACD, get this player. Comes with on set of 3 way connetors, get one more set to make the 5.1 connections. Performs without any issue on SACD, DVD, CD, etc.
Cons: Maybe you get slightly better performance from a $1000+ player, but I would never notice it.

"I still own this, hoping for Blu-Ray with DSD" on by ken_wilsonii
Pros: SACD, DVD, DTS great zoom capability
Cons: None tp date
Summary: I still own this DVD player and it still plays great. The only thing it will not play is obviously new blu-ray discs.
I am looking to upgrade to a Blu-Ray with HDMI that supports SACD with DSD across the HDMI cable. This has not transpired yet, but things are looking up.
IF you get a chance to buy a used one of these, get it. Best DVD/SACD/Multi-channell player I have ever owned. -
"DV 563 What can I say.." on by paulc35
Pros: Great universal for the $$$
Cons: Not a one for the money
Summary: I've had this player I believe since 2003 and paid like $119 and it has been a great performer and reliable..Got my boss the one after it the 573 and its was even less money $110. I think for a budget player the pioneer is the one to beat..Even up to the new DV 353 I believe thats the model, but anyway for the person that needs a quality player and wants it to double as a cd player for his 4-$500 theater system this is the player

"Best value universal DVD player" on
Pros: Good progressive playback, better than most other players in this price range. Play SACD and DVD-audio with respectable performance. You might want to consider the newer model 578A. You can get 578A at around $150 but I got my 563A from CC at $89 as an op
Cons: None at this price range.
