"Great price for the number of features"
Pros: Sounds excellent and versatile even plays DVD+Rs
Cons: looks a little cheesey
Summary: For the money you can't beat this DVD player.
I couldn't believe that it would sound better than my Pioneer DV-414 but it does and if your ready to make the leap to SACD they will blow you away. They are that much better than a normal CD.

I have recently upgrades my Pioneer Reciever
to an vsx ax4 avi( it is the Elite VSX-74txvi in the US) and I was running a Pananasic dvd s-27 player.
I upgraded this to the dv 686-a-s (which is the dv -588-s in the US).
Man did I get a huge surprise.
I put on the movie "Stealth" (which I use as a reference when I tweek my surround settings on my receiver.)
The sound coming out of my Accusound Delta's blew me away. It was simply awesome.
The sound was very crisp as if you were there.and the "fly over" scenes nearly had me ducking.
I couldn't believe the difference in quality
when comparing it to the Panasonic DvD player I was using before.
The sound was at par with my friends very expensive Denon DVD setup. He actually commented that it even sounded better than his system. (He has a Denon 3806 a/v receiver)
I then put on PinK Floyds Darkside of the Moon SACD in 5.1 ch. Man I was gob smacked.
The clarity of the sound coming from the instruments was as if you were there.
I have newver heard music like that before.
I recommend this DVD player to everyone. I guarantee you will not be dissapointed.
Good Work Pioneer.
PS.. I was originally in the market for a DVD upscaler.
I was so close in purchasing the Sony DVP-Ns92v however after trialing it by viewing an upscaled movie on my Hitachi PJtx100 High Definition Projector I could not see any significant improvement of the Picture I was getting with the Panasonic- so take it from me don't waste your money)
