The Bottom Line CNET did not review the Samsung DVD-HD850, but we did review the step-up model, the Samsung DVD-HD950. Samsung's DVD-HD950, a universal HDMI-upconversion DVD player, falls a little short of videophile demands. We preview the Samsung DVD-HD860 upscaling DVD player, which is designed to convert DVDs to high-definition resolutions. The Samsung BD-P1600 has a great mix of features and performance for a standalone Blu-ray player, with only its annoying design holding it back. While the stylish Samsung DVD-HD960 isn't perfect, it is one of the first players to offer 1080p upconversion, and its image quality will satisfy just about everybody.
