"Quite simply awesome!"
Pros: Fantastic upconversion. Pirates of the Carribean just came alive in a way I could almost smell the ocean surf!!!
Cons: Set up to HDMI is convoluted, complicated and clumsy set up.
Summary: I bought this set with some hesitation, as the HD841 did not enjoy great reviews. Further, there has been an unconvincing report by the jury as to the validity of upconversion. My experience over 3 days of woning this player is that - the overall performance so far is just AWESOME.
The biggest gripe I have is that the setup of HDMI is nightmarish, to say the least. I had to connect both the HDMI cable and the composite cable to access Samsung's menu. Then when HDMI is selected the screen goes totally blank for 10 seconds before resetting to composite (not HDMI). Turns out that in that 10 seconds you have to figure out how to select the YES option for HDMI, WHILE VIEWING A TOTALLY BLANK SCREEN!!!! Once you get past this hurdle, this player just ROCKS. Tried every movie from the Matrix triology, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Star Wars, and Pirates of the Carribean. I am a believer that upconversion DVD players work, and how! Every movie came alive in subtle details and amazing clarity (I have a Sony KDF-60XS955).
Final word: Its a shame that Samsung has made an absolutely delightful player so insanely obscure to set up, but apart from that it has been a great buy so far.

I paid about $180 including shipping. The unit is sleek and sharp looking and matches other components in our system. I had no problems setting it up & accessing the menu using the HDMI output, as another reviewer stated. The included HDMI cable isn't that bad...it's a little longer than 4 feet and provides an excellent picture to my 67" 1080p Samsung DLP TV. The remote could offer a little bit more in terms of functionality. If you're an occassional DVD watcher, as I am, this is an excellent player for the money and I am quite happy.

I don't understand how you setup your DVD player. I've read all these comments and weird setups but don't seem to find these hard to do setups in the manual. I just simply states to get the HDMI cable and to hook it into the player's output and into the TV's input and just click what resolution you want on the HDMI sel. button but when I do it they all look the same and they all look terrible and grainy. I need your help please! I'm about to return this player but I want to try what you did and maybe it could redeem itself. Thanks.
