Pros Good 720p picture on my new 46" Samsung HDTV !
Cons Lasted for 2 days
Summary I purchased this unit to complement my new Samsung 46" DLP HDTV, which is capable of 720p display. I have no complaints regarding the upconverted signal, but would offer that over-air, 1080i HD signals appeared superior (TV down converts these to 720p). Perhaps I should be shopping for a 1080i upconverting DVD unit?!
Although this unit went bad in a hurry, I will try another Samsung to minimize the number of remote-controls I'm dealing with... Yes, I'm aware of the Logitech/Harmony remotes, but balk at the additional expense.
I've been pretty happy with Samsung products, but this was a lemon. My advice would be to avoid misplacing your receipt!
Pros Image quality,prices and design
Cons Remote control looks urgly
Summary I was a bit concerned after reading some negative rating before the purchase. However,it turned out to be an excellet investment. Image quality is much better than my expectation. I looked at animation and it looked like HD quality. I connected this to my new 50" Panasonic PDP (with HDMI). This is really good DVD player with very affordable price.
Pros Easy menu and functions
Cons Video resolution is nauseating
Summary I am no expert on A/V equipment, but after spending the past 15 years building computer equipment and putting together countless home theater components, I feel I know a few things. No matter what resolution you choose on this player (Progressive or Interlaced) the outcome is the same...horrible. I'm not one of those that plugs in equipment and expects it to work to perfection without tweaking. But the truth is, that if 2 hours of tweaking did not produce satisfactory results, then I figured no more time would be necessary to reach the inevitable conclusion. Returning this tomorrow and looking for an alternative. In closing, my 10 year old Zenith and 8 year old Toshiba DVD player which I keep in the guest room show better resolution...enough said.
"Very good unit"on by firestorm23
Pros picture quality,price,menu system
Cons cannot play vcds
Summary i bought this unit refurbished and i am so impressed with it.it also has a pal/nstc converter for playing foreign dvd's and the region code on this unit can be hacked to play all region dvd's.using the HDMI input really makes a big difference. In my opinion the picture quality looks better than blu-ray.you can switch resolution via the remote which makes it so easy
Pros Sleek looking, all necessary connections, sound options
Cons Produced grainy, sub par images
Summary This was coupled with my Samsung 42" plasma and I was very disappointed in it's ability to upconvert.
Even the digital animation movies came out grainy and produced a bad image. It was grainy and soft. I played with different resolutions, tv settings, and nothing seemed to help.
I returned this item and purched the Sony NS75H after a considerable amount of research. It does a MUCH better job and have been happy with it.
