"Great Product (If and Only If you have HDMI)" on by techuser311
Pros: 1080P ! 1080i ! Sleak Design ! DCDI by Faroudja!
Cons: No Support for 1080P or 1080i via Component Connection. (Only 480p and 480i via Component)
Summary: I purchased this product as a gift for my parants, who have a couple years old Mitsubishi 55" Wide Screen HD TV. (w/ no HDMI jack).
I was impressed by it's reviews, but I wanted to make sure it outputed 1080i via it's component out. So I contacted Samsung Tech Suport, and asked them. They either lied to me, or simply didn't know any better. Because once I had it all hooked up, I discovered it would only do 480i / 480p via the component connection. So I called Samsung Support again, and the second time they were like ("we applogize for whoever you spoke with before, but the DVD-HD960 only outputs the 1080i/1080p via the HDMI connection". So if you don't have an HDMI jack, I'd be cautious about purchasing this product.
But outside of that issue, it still displays a better picture then my parants previous DVD player. And the DCDI by Faroudja makes for clear detail images. -
"The Interim Solution" on by justjock
Pros: Great Picture Quality
Cons: Slow Loading Time
Summary: This is a great interim solution while the battle between HD and BluRay is fought. You'll find that the picture quality of this upconversion is outstanding. Running directly from the DVD-HD960 to a HP-S4253 on HDMI, the overall 1080i picture quality can't be beat.
Even though the HD960 is somewhat sluggish in powering on and loading, the overall picture quality is definitely worth the wait. Another feature that could be improved is the fastforward speed - remote option is X2, X4, then X64.
Again, a great interim purchase while waiting for the HD and BluRay battle to be won. ENJOY! -
"Great value for the price!!" on by Torero1972
Pros: Easy yo use, great picture quality, and it remembers where you left off on a DVD even when it has been turned off.
Cons: None that I can think of.
Summary: I bought the DVD-HD960 as I was unwilling to be a pawn in the HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray War. The price was right and it's quality and features are very impressive!

"Watching movies is good, recording is suspect." on by evigil24
Pros: The picture quality was good but even better when I hooked up my Montser Cables, I highly recommend purchacing Monster Cables if you want the full effect of the HD up conversion.
Cons: Recording programs on cable TV doesnt look that great, if anyone has suggestions please post them.
Summary: So far I have no reasons not to recommend this DVD player, my main issue is the recording aspect of it aside from that its awsome. For the price this is an exceptional DVD player/recorder, you will be extremly satified with your purchace. If you dont mind spending a few extra dollars and you want the full effect of your DVD's Monster Cables is where it's at, no joke these improve picture quality tremendously.

"Yep 960hd was disappointing..." on by radiospots
Pros: slim and very compact...
Cons: quality is disppointing...
Summary: I am not sure what I was expecting, but it was better than this. I really wanted the best possible pic I could get off my old dvd's for my newly purchased 40" LCD Samsung. I hooked this up with hdmi hookup and felt that whatever i got, would be absolutely better than what I have been getting with my Q50 Phillips play that also has a Faroundja chip. I wanted to wait on buying a true HD dvd player, but felt the need to wait in case they have a lot of bugs to fix for these new players, and from what I heard on the new samsung blu-ray, glad I waited. Anyway...this is an okay DVD player, but it definitely is not like watching a HD cable broadcast. Right now, it appears that marketeers for this technology have got ahead of themselves and the smart thing to do is just wait till HD player manufacturers actually can deliver what they are promising.
