"Maybe for the price being dead after 2 years isn't horrible" on
Pros: It had a very nice picture.
Cons: Tended to hesitate and get the picture/sound out of sync. Now it will not power up at all.

"ok, until the movies freze/skip" on
Summary: This machine worked fine, although NUON technology was useless for me (no games, CD's that are easily found). I had this machine for just about a year when I noticed one movie statred to freeze in the middle of a scene, then the problem got even worse. Amazing, just after the warrentee expires, so does the machine. Annoying remote that needs a firm "click" to enter menu items. worked fin eon mp3, vcd's but now that most of the quality disk movies are freezing up , the machine is destined for the GOODWILL box. Useless other than CD player now, for that I'll get a SONY for $99.

"Loads of feature, but doesn't perform basic function!" on
Summary: Great features, great picture quality but skips too often. I've had mine for almost a year now. It skips even to brand new, out of the box DVDs! Extremely frustrating. This product had mixed reviews and I should have known better; I regret buying this DVD player. I even have the latest update on this, yet it still skips. Yes, it has great features, but what is the point if you can't watch a darn 2 hour movie without it skipping 5-6 times. It starts to skip about 45 - 60 min into the movie, after that it's really bad and skips like every 2-3 min. And it has skipped to just about every movie we've watched. I did buy the extended warranty from Best Buy, but they say "we can't find the problem", so I'm stuck with this thing. Like they actually sat and watched a movie to see if it skips. I guess a customers word is not good enough these days! I'm rating this awful because it doesn't perform it's basic function well enough to be worth any kind of money.

"Having problems with lock-up even after upgrade" on
Summary: Today I was ready to throw my 1 1/2 year old P.O.S DVD-N501 player in the garbage after at least a dozen calls to Samsung and after CVE, Inc. (service center in NJ) already "fixed" it once before. It got to the point where I couldn't watch any movies becuase they would either lock-up or start skipping complete chapters. I then saw a posting here about the BIOS upgrade and found it on the web. I upgraded the unit (was still at version xxx.45), but I'm still having the same problems. I'm completely amazed that none of the 3 idiots I spoke to at Samsung or the 2 morons at CVE Inc knew anything about the upgrade. The only way I found out about it was at this site. Maybe the consumers should be running Samsung.

"Jitter and lockup even after upgrade" on
Summary: Even after BIOS upgrade, one out of two DVD's exhibits significant amounts of jitter and lockup. Great feature set but very infrequently do I use the extra features. Slow to load and frustratingly slow to respond to remote. Music CD's play fine but the visual effects are distractingly vivid - probably great at parties but absolutely useless for casual or quiet listening. If you want to play games, get a game machine.
