"Quite good for SACD/DVD-Audio Discs" on by tomasej

Pros: Well built, quiet, plays all SACD's and most DVD-Audio Discs

Cons: Stupid machine insists on playing a disc when turned on; horrible menus, picture quite often too soft.

Summary: I owned an Onkyo 300+1 changer for several years before buying the ES version of this changer. As others have said, the fact that this machine INSISTS on playing a disc when turned on (usually whatever is in the lowest number slot) is horrendous! While that may be forgivable, the menu is not. I just moved, and after LOADING all 398 of my discs, I just couldn't go through the painstaking job of re-titling the discs it can't read (most of them!) You can only view five at a time, waiting for each group to appear before you can move on, or you can speed through the number slots w/o any info showing! And titling them is so complicated that one should do it almost every day, or one forgets how to! But this changer is rock solid, quiet, even when changing discs (slowly) and not only plays all SACD's, but all but two of my DVD-Audio's. As for video, this machine "stores" a lot of my titles, but often, when I find a disk, I remove it and play it on the Onkyo or one of my other single disc players since the Sony tends to show a soft, sometimes almost blurred picture. And I find all Sony products' manuals to be incomprehensible, as is this one. Most websites wanted about $1000 for this model, but I found one for $600 plus $25 shipping. I would not recommend this to anyone but those who want to play SACD's and DVD-Audio's and want the convenience of "storing" discs.

"Sony is Bad!" on by Howard3801

    Pros: Nice picture

Cons: hdmi wont connect to dvi

Summary: Could not get picture using hdmi -- dvi converter... Called sony and they wanted me to pay to ship it to Texas..(unit is 3 weeks old!)... I said that is not fair!! DOnt know if unit is defective or badly designed since I have a Toshiba that does play with that hookup!! Dealer is exchanging the unit for me!! We will see if the next one will work as advertised!
