"6 yrs and counting."on by uqueia
Pros Longevity, Plays DVDs, Cheap price.
Cons Nothing so far.
Summary Bought this in 2005 and it has been playing DVD's ever since.
Pros Nothing at all, it doesnt play
Cons Too many to list, it does not play
Summary This is the third refurbished dvd Sonystyle.com has sent me the first two died after a month, and the third plays for 4 minutes and then shuts down. Or freezes or opens by itself. I used to trust SONY, now I can't handle it. I can't watch ten minutes without a problem.
"Nice DVD PQ"on by chugawoo
Pros Picture Quality
Cons Progressive scan is no good
Summary Believe it or not, I get a better PQ from the Interlace setting rather than the Progressive setting. Black levels are deeper and PQ is much, much better on Interlace. Other than that, its a hardy, inexpensive DVD player for Sony fans!!
"Cheap 480p"on by 350ZMO
Pros Cheap disposable, dolby digital and dts capable, Coax digital audio, Component video out
Cons Made by Sony
Summary Ok I admit it, I am no Sony fan. I had been bitten by Sony thrice before on some of their top of the line model products, one of them a DVD player.
This time I didn't read the reviews which is unusual. I was in a hurry and needed a quick fix and bought this unit based on its low price and claimed feature set thinking oh well its a Sony but at least it's cheap enough I won't feel too bad throwing it out after a year.
So far so good it hasn't let me down but since its a Sony I know it's just a matter of time. Eventually it will crap out and I'll throw it away. I say this because I had this happen to me with a very expensive top of the line Sony DVD player once before...and some other Sony products.
I saw nothing particularly outstanding about this unit other than it's cheap and disposable and has all the standard features, coaxial digital out, component video out, s-video out, line audio out, dobly digital, dts capable, DVD +/-, 480p, 12bit video DAC, pretty standard fare.
If need a cheao unit then give it a try. It does pretty good while it's doing...course I may be surprised and this thing will last longer than other Sony product I've owned. Only time will tell.
If you intend to connect this into a home theater av surround sound amplifier then make sure it supports coaxial digital and PCM encoding.
Pros Beautiful design, nice slim deck. Plays CDs great!
Cons Slow start up time. Stopped playing DVDs.
Summary This unit was my second Sony DVD player. It still plays CDs just great but 14 months later and the DVD part of the unit won't play. It runs for about 2 minutes and then the whole unit just shuts off. All of my other Sony components are ES or XBR. Now I know I will never buy an item from their standard line. You get what you pay for.
