Pros: Picture, memory of last pace in movie

    Cons: long boot time

Summary: Had the Phillips DVP 5965 which I returned because it could not remember where I was in a disk if I turned it off and remote did not work unless I was right in front of the player.

Sony has the same if not better picture, is much more sturdy, and the remote actually works from throughout the room. Well worth the extra $50 or so.

You obviously didn't care to read the user manual for your Philips DVP5960. It's clearly indicated that it remembers the position of the last 5 disks but to get to that last position you have to hit PLAY when you put the disc in the machine and it's reading LOADING on the display.
