"Best addition ever to my home theater."
Pros: Superb picture and audio.
Cons: Few minor issues.
Summary: I have had this player for two weeks and every time I use it I'm flat out amazed at the picture quality on my 56 inch 1080P DLP. As a bonus the player is a top notch upscaling player and is worth the price for that alone. If your looking for jaw dropping video and over to top audio this is it. The player does have a few minor issues that will be fixed in the first firmware update but none of these are in any way a show stopper.

i think Cnet was bit harsh on the review, the players worked flawlessly after firmware upgrade, HD DVD looks awesome and upconveritn gdvd looks good too. the player is slow becasue it is PC based player not like a regular DVD player and is written in the manual. Remote is poorly designed. one thing Cnet should mention when comparing to BR player is performane vs price, for GOD sake BR is twice the price and if it better, it has to be other wise what a rip off. anyhow i hope hd dvd wins because i am tired of SONY propritery crap one after another MINIDISC, SACD, DRM memory stick, SONY thinks that everyone is cheating making copies of their DVDs and waisting their time trying to make technology perfect. the problem is, the minute a copy protetion fix is out there will be a work around to copy it some how, so for 10% cheaters don't punish 90 % who paid for movies. AND if SONY is banking on PS3 it might be big mistake too, the reason is, there are not enough HD sets owner who also want to pay $600 for PS3. they might buy it as cheaper BR player.

I got this player last weekend and all I can say is WOW!!!! Not only is the HD Disc I got eyepopping, but the upconvert, as you said, is worth the price. Moulin Rouge and Chicago actually LOOK like they are HD discs. Add to that the crispness of the sound playing a CD. I've been hearing lyrics, orchestrations etc that I've never heard before.

It is refeshing to see that we have a few people who undertand what the word 'REVIEW' means. This is not a forum for people to write in and condemn one product or the other, but a place for people who have ACTUALLY SPENT THEIR MONEY AND PURCHASED one of these items to voice their opinions as to how the product rates in their personal user expirence.
The only people who can truly trash a product are those who have actually gone out and bought them.
