"Perfect Player for new technology" on by Supra2JZGTE

Pros: The thing WORKS! Supports everything HD-DVD offers today and tomorrow.

Cons: In a war with Blu Ray Disc. You can easily be deceived by the BDA in beleving that HD-DVD is a horrible format.

Summary: Ok, so here it is, I have both this machine and a PS3 for Blu Ray Disc, because of exclusives.
So let me lay it out to you, get this machine! If you have the extra 100 bux for 1080p output, fine, get that one, but for $299.99, you cant go wrong. The machine works! It does what you want it to do. I have the PS3 and the movies on BD just dont cut it in terms of compatibility and functionality. The picture and audio quality is identical to Blu Ray and the features are only here on HD-DVD. I highly recommend this player to anyone wanting to watch HD-DVDs. Its fully featured, unlike BD machines, and its , here is the key word folks, AFFORDABLE!

"Outstanding Picture and Value" on by webdev511

Pros: Great picture, tons of features

Cons: Startup time and time to learn the features

Summary: An outstanding value. Paid $240 and had plenty of money to buy a lot of HD Discs to go with it. It even makes my standard def (480p) discs look great.

    Yeah, I'd buy it again.

"Best picture for my 720p/1080i Plasma you can get" on by joshuabreen

Pros: great 1080i/720p picture on plasma

Cons: who wins format war, wish more blu ray titles were HD dvd

Summary: i bought this unit because i bought my new panasonic plasma 720p and got a 100 off coupon at best buy, the unit had just price dropped to 300 and i was like what the hell i will buy one for 200 since iw as going to buy an upconvert for 150. I hooked it up to my plasma via the hdmi port using monster cable and the picture is insane. it upconverts to an amazing pic....and if you watch 300 you could develop a heart condition

best bang for the buck until a format is decided

"It gets better than this?" on by Doc#1

Pros: 5 free HD DVDs, great for testing the waters!

Cons: their are none as far as I can see!

Summary: Great picture for not having to completely invest in a HD or Blue Ray system. “Planet Earth” HD DVD is flawless on this player!! GO HD!!!

    Updated
Don't buy this using the 5 hd DVDs as a price offset! I never got the 5!! Back down to a 2 with Toshiba's poor costumer support. Now I will pay the EXTRA for Blur-Ray. This purchase was about as stupid as my purchase of Vista 64bit! I suggest you look at the price to picture quality only. Playing the box cutting bar codes and mailing in them for nothing in return is just plain stupid. Savings should be passed along to the consumer in the price. Mailing in crap just gets you put on more junk mail lists!

"VERY GOOD DEAL for the features and price" on by kcullamar

Pros: excellent HD video quality; it REALLY upgrades video quality of standard DVDs

    Cons: long warm-up time

Summary: I bought this model off AMAZON.COM
( Crutchfield was the seller ) for $199 last 6/2007.

No sweat set-up and connections. Aside from the 10-15 second "boot-up" time when you press the start button, no other issues.

This is the most affordable way you can enjoy HD DVD and/or SDVD. I really can't tell the difference between 1080i versus 1080p and frankly, even though this has "only" 1080i output, the images will BLOW YOU AWAY. Plus standard DVDs look like they're identical in resolution to cable HD.

I watched the Matrix Trilogy using this on a Aquos 32in LCD and I saw details I have never seen before. I'll never go back to SDVD again!
