"Great picture. Nice remote. Nice look."
Pros: Great picture. Nice remote. Great sound.
Cons: Wish it was 1080p now.
Summary: This player is blowing me away. I've looked at the difference between HD-DVD and Blu Ray, and HD-DVD just has a better picture in the demos I've seen. I was told by a salesmen at Magnolia after I purchased the HD-A2 that the next firmware upgrade will include an upgrade to 1080p. There is a small letter p next to the 1080i indicator light on the digital display as well. It's hard to imagine the picture looking any better though. Batman Begins in HD-DVD is truely stunning! The player works great, buy it!

This player's HDMI connection will not work for most users. Toshiba is aware of the issue, and a firmware upgrade CD is being prepared -- but who knows whether it will work, and it will take a minimum of 2-3 weeks for you to receive it. Toshiba's web site mentions the firmware upgrade, but not the magnitude of the problem with the HDMI connection. Beware of this player! I believe the HDMI problem affects other Toshiba HD DVD players as well.

In response the the comment will not do 1080P I beg to differ. This is going to be a firmware upgrade throught the Ethernet Port download. This upgrade will be posted and be available the third week of April 2007.

1080p would require a new chip inside, not just a firmware upgrade. The P indicator light is for 480p and 720p content.
What the sales guy probably got confused is that Toshiba will be releasing the HD-A20 soon, an intermediary player between the A2 and the XA2 that will do 1080p.
