Pros PICTURE QUALITY VERY VERY GOOD.SOUND IS AMAZING USING A FIBER OPTIC CABLE.
Cons THE REMOTE IS COOL,BUT THE BUTTONS ARE A BIT SMALL.
Summary OVERALL EXCELLENT PLAYER BUT YOU NEED TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE WHICH IS 4.0 THERE ARE STILL PLENTY OF HD DVDS OUT THERE TO BUY CHECK ONLINE.REGULAR DVDS LOOK GOOD TO BECAUSE OF ITS 1080P UPSCALE.
Pros TrueHD Decoder, relatively fast Startup speed, Almost nonaudible Drive, Ethernet Port
Cons No Divx (which no HD Or Blu Ray Player has)
Summary This Player is the whole package. You get a great HD-DVD Player, that plays HD-DVD's in an almost unbelievable picture and Soundquality. The startup speed is pretty fast. The remote is very ergonomic. It also plays DVD's in a great Quality. You can get it for as low as $99.95. If your wallet isn't that filled currently and you want to enter the High Definition World this is the player for you. Another thing all HD-DVD Players have going for them is that the movies have gotten pretty cheap by now.
I bought my player for the regular price a few month back and haven't regretted the purchase at all.
Pros the price is good and cheap
Cons it does not bitstream dts or dd over hdmi so what is it worth when 60% of the movie is audio
Pros Excellent picture, a snap to connect, worked the 1st time.
Cons Remote seemed to have its own personality
Summary I took the bait with the price cut, and got more than I expected. This Machine made it possible for me to watch my old dvds. When I watched my complimentary copy of the Bourne identity it was a, Wow, moment. Setup was only hampered by the hit and miss function of the remote control, otherwise everything else was a breeze.
Pros Great quality, especially upconvert
Cons Does not play DIVX
Summary I purchased this player after xmas, and I'm very happy with it even though Toshiba is losing the war vs. Blu-Ray. The picture quality is excellent, and standard DVD's look better on this player than my old upconverting DVD player.
About all of the people whining about speed or firmware updates, you act like you've never used a DVD player before. The speed is a little slower than a standard DVD player, but faster than many Blu-Ray players. Trying to download a firmware update through the ethernet port was pointless for me since it kept failing...so I just downloaded it onto my computer, burned it to a CD, and applied it with the CD. Much faster that way.
If the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray war last a little longer, I would recommend this player for its quality picture (for 1080p) and low price. But even I'll admit that it's looking more like the studios are leaning towards Blu-Ray.
