"Awesome quality, but with a couple setbacks"
Pros: Style/Finish is nothing short of superb; picture quality is excellent
Cons: Very slow (opening) tray and menu load time
Summary: I was really excited to pull this heavy piece of hardware out of the box...and it is beautiful! I bought this product, without even seeing a demo setup...I figured that the specs alone would stand up to its claim. I wasn't disappointed in sound and picture quality of next-gen home video. If I could describe the detail in clarity, it would be like watching 5-6 megapixel still picture, but in MOTION! The sound was a lot clearer also, with the 6.1 custom Bose/Klipsch setup that I'm running. Although this player only outputs 1080i, it was hard to tell with the 60" Sony SXRD (which has a native resolution of 1080p). Bottom line for quality of the hardware and audio/video output: 10 all the way!!
...However, gotta note the drawbacks. It seemed like my remote wasn't working, or the button inputs were delayed or something (I might have to play around with it more). Everytime I went to press the open/close button (or door button) on the remote, it wouldn't seem to respond - only to find out that it just took that long! Also, the motion sensor on the remote to activate the backlight seemed like a cool feature, but when I grabbed the remote to perform a function, it only stayed illuminated for a short amount of time (often not being able to finish pressing the buttons that you were looking for). You would then have to either set the remote down (then pick it up again), or shake the crap out of it! There is a button on the remote to turn the backlight on, but what good is it if you can't see it
If it wasn't for the slow load time and remote (shortcomings), I would easily give this player a 10, but gotta go with an overall 8/8.5.

I have own several Toshiba DVD drives. Toshiba has a history of poor performing DVD drives. All the DVD players I have owned all experience the same SLOW response from the DVD door -- are you ever going to open??????? Look for Pioneer to come out with a few excellent high end DVD players. By the way, don't buy Toshiba'a LCD or Plasma TV's. You will send those back also.
