"Gotta have that 1080p/24 upgrade, Toshiba!" on by teddywah

Pros: A nice, native 1080i picture-and excellent up conversion of SD.

Cons: No 1080p/24 yet, like my PS3-for my Pioneer 940HD. Bearable, but slow start-up.

Summary: For me the XA2 has it all-or nearly all: the HDMI 1.3a connection, with the $599 price tag, 5 free HD movies, the ability to upgrade (hopefully soon) to 1080p/24 resolution (BIG difference on my PS3), ethernet, and decoding lossless HD audio (coming in A/V receivers Onkyo, Pioneer). Until 1080p/24 arrives on this unit from Toshiba, I would not give it a 10... an 11 when it does.

    Updated
Latest info on Toshiba's firmware update to 1080p/24fps, on the XA2 and A2, is late summer 2007. -Courtesy of AVS forums, HD Players, specifically, Robert. As much as I am anticipating the firmware update; I'd rather see them do it right. However, the ps3 engineers did a fine job-in obviously a much shorter time. Your move, Toshiba.
    Updated
There are several opinions that this latest update to their flagship HD DVD player is not delivering what was promised so many months ago, i.e., direct, 1080p/24-film quality pass-thru. The jury is still out. I do happen to see better contrast/detail at 1080p/24 setting in HD DVDs I am familiar with.
