"Great DVD Player"on by theosdoren
Pros This DVD player really makes high quality standard DVDs look like HD! It gives you 4 choices depending upon your situation, "Sharp, Color, Contrast, & Off". Not all DVDs are equal, high quality DVDs give great results, lesser ones poorer results.
Cons It doesn't give you multiple choices for enhancement "Sharp & color or sharp & contrast. It doesn't remember where you stop a DVD so you have to keep track of that yourself. The remote could be larger and clearer, the manual could be more detailed
Summary This DVD player really makes high quality standard DVDs look like HD! It gives you four choices depending upon your situation, "Sharp, Color, Contrast, and Off". Not all DVDs are equal, high quality DVDs give great results, lesser ones poorer results. I paid $79 and thought that was a decent price but a better price would be $39.
Pros good picture quality, fairly fast response,
Cons does not remember where you last stopped the disc. light weight design feels cheap, below average remote, menus look ancient
Summary I am one of those people that think that Blu-Ray disc's are too expensive. Because of that, I wanted to get a quality DVD player that is capable of upscaling and picture enhancement.
After hearing about it from John C. Dvorak, I decided to investigate this device. Though it is 100% higher than a comparable HDMI DVD player, the color mode makes the picture more vibrant. Other modes include sharp and contrast, which electronically adjusts the output.
One complaint that I have about the unit is the fact that it does not save the spot where you last stopped. I have a circa 2002 player that has that feature, so I am curious to know why Toshiba opted to leave that off of this model.
If you do not have plans to by a Blu-Ray player, I say buy this one and enjoy regular DVD's.
Pros Awesome picture & sound quality, upconvert DVD to 90% HD, contrast mode is my favorite. Easy region free hack.
Cons cost a little more the average DVD player but with more benefit. 4:3 format missing.
Summary I have owned a few upconverting DVD players & PS3, but this XDE kick ass. 'Casion Royal' look just as good as Blu Ray version. There no need for me to purchase BD anymore.
Pros beautiful upscaling picture this dvd player is almost like watching a blue ray movie, more than halp the cost of a blue ray player
Cons it's still not blue ray
Summary toshiba lost the format wars so of course they wanted to come out with a excellent upscale dvd player to try and take some business away for blue ray, to me blue ray is not worth the extra money blue ray cost more than double than this machine and with blue ray the movies are alot more expensive than dvd, who cares about paying more for a blue ray movie to just see the pimples on somebody's face in te movie. Most of the blue ray players out right now have alot of problems with freezing up, long load times, and some are way overpriced, I will keep using this machine until they start to make better blue ray players and until the prices go way down.
