Yamaha's new DVD player handles DVD+RW/+R, CD-R/RW and VCD Disc Playback. Many people are using their computers or digital recorders to make their own CD-R/RW discs and the new DV-S5550 is capable of playing these discs. The DV-S5550 expands your listening possibilities to include MP3 tracks also. The CD-R/RW disc can hold about 12 hours of MP3 music, so this is a great advantage. DVD discs hold huge amounts of digital information, allowing them to provide video and audio with a degree of clarity unlike anything you've ever experienced before. The DV-S5550 is able to read this data and transmit it to the other system components with no loss of quality. The DV-S5550 accomplishes this with a wide range of sophisticated circuitry, including a 10-bit video D/A converter and a 96kHz, 24-bit audio D/A converter. In addition, Yamaha's new Chroma Upsampling Error circuit greatly reduces the jagged/streaky effect on the edges of brightly colored objects, which is common to almost all DVD players. The high performance laser pick-up focuses independently to provide top-quality Video CD, Audio CD, and DVD performance. 96 kHz/24-bit compatible audio digital-to-analog conversion assures that the DV-S5550 delivers superior sound performance. Yamaha's high quality, 10-bit, video DAC conversion assures the finest possible video performance. In addition to analog outputs with Tru-Surround 3D, the DV-S5550 provides optical and coaxial outputs for Dolby Digital, DTS, MPEG, and PCM sound - and a separate subwoofer output. It also provides two composite video outputs as well as component video output. 1.33x, 2x, and 4x zoom lets you enlarge the image and take a close look at any scene. The DV-S5550 provides Picture Fine Tuning for adjustment of saturation, brightness, and contrast to get the best picture. The DV-S5550 gives you numerous ways to enjoy your discs. You can program tracks in the order you want, use Shuffle Play to play them randomly, repeat them in a variety of ways, freeze any frame, and zoom the image to three different sizes. The unique screen saver feature dims the screen 75% when in the pause mode. Resume play allows you to interrupt a movie to go to a feature and then pick up the movie where you left off with 5-Disc Memory. Program and random play provides you with listening or viewing flexibility, allowing you to program songs to play in a particular order, or totally at random. Child lock allows parents the option of denying play of any specific DVD and VCD. Parental lock allows parents the option of denying play of any specific DVD. Control and operation is easy with the DV-S5550's well-designed remote control keypad.
