"Not Bad, Great Quality for the Price"
Pros: For me the AR-230 is generally ok to good, with a few disappointments. It records great in SP mode (2 Hour) with great quality. (I can?t tell the difference between it and my Digital Dish Network PVR 500 Satellite feed). I upgraded the firmware to the lat
Cons: It not the highest quality unit but is fair to good quality, and generally works if you use DVD media it likes. I have made about 20 DVD?s so far successfully and discarded a few of them before the firmware upgrade. Things are going ok now.

Pros: RECORDS IN VERY HIGH QUALITY. HAVE RECORDED ALL MY VHS ONTO DVD WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. WONDER IF PEOPLE THAT COMPLAIN ABOUT +RW NOT FINALIZING REALIZE THAT +RW DO NOT FINALIZE-THEY CAN BE ERASED AND USED AGAIN. HAVE NOT HAD ANY FAILURES ON +R OR +RW!
Cons: LIMITED OPTIONS

Pros: The physical setup and programming of the AR-230 wasn't any harder than setting up a VCR. VHS to Memorex DVD+R worked very well. I have already created several DVD from my VHS library. Image quality on all modes except 6 hours is good.
Cons: I had to update the firmware on the unit right out of the box to get it to see my higher speed DVD+R disks. DVD+RW has currently been less then reliable.

"Excellent Value - Easy to Use!"
Pros: Worked right out of the box. Controls very logical. Good starter non-PC DVD recorder. The Gateway store I visited sold 4 of this item while I was there.
Cons: No menu creation options.
