"IF YOU NEED RELIABILITY KEEP LOOKING"
Pros: It does actually record to dvd and has the capability to record directly from your camcorder and/or VCR.
Cons: I bought this primarily to record shows because I wanted to timeshift my viewing. I am using Imation DVD+RW media. When I set the timer, it sometimes turns the machine on but does not begin recording. More importantly, out of about ten record tries, ab

Pros: HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS RECORDING DVD+R OR DVD+RW. PICTURE QUALITY IS EXCELLENT. HAVE RECORDED ABOUT 20 DVD'S WITHOUT ANY FAILURES!

Pros: Can record TV shows through my TV satelite box. Playback was okay.
Cons: Did not always record after pause. System would lock up often. Very long wait before functions. Playback of recorded home video was "choppy". Gateway Tech support had me download a new driver and burn it on a CD disk to then download onto the recorder

Pros: Easy to Setup and use. The quality is very good on high and standard mode. I haven't tried the other recording modes yet. However, this is much easier to use when transferring video to DVD...rather than via computer. If you want more edit options burn

"If you value your time don't waste it on the AR230"
Pros: Plays most disk, fairly easy to use (if it worked).
Cons: First recording on RW disk worked fine (haven't tried to finalize it yet so that may still fail). First recording to DVD+R disk would not play back and failed to finalize. Tech support has never used the product and could only offer up documentation. Th
