Pros: Simple to use and the disc tool feature is helpful.
Cons: Finalized my first 3 discs and that's it. I get a change disc error that is not discussed in owner's manual or on Gateway's online support. They're sending a new one - we'll see if it works.

"Good enough for the undemanding user"
Pros: I recorded to dvd+rw and played on my philips dvd player w/ no problem. (is finalizing only necessary on dvd+r's?) Picture quality is pretty darn good in 2hr mode. Commercial dvd playback on an older 25 inch tv seemed adequate. (don't think the tv is c

"Wait for the prices to drop on the name brands"
Pros: very easy to use, not complicated to hook up
Cons: the first two dvd's i burned were no problem. After that, i could not burn another one. The machine would tell me the disc was invalid or even worse, that there was no disc in the machine. I went through a 10 pack, then a 50 pack of blank memorex dvd+r's
