Pros Quick recording. Easy controls. Good picture.
Cons Early mechanical failure.
Summary I bought this unit just to record programs off the TV. It worked great for 60 days but then came to a grinding halt (literally). It started making clunking sounds upon formatting a disc and never recovered even after rebooting. It never accessed another disc but just continued its clunking routine. Fortunately I had bought the unit from Walmart so I got a refund. After buying many Panasonic TVs and VCRs this is the first unit to completely fail.
Pros Good feature set, Editing on recorder very nice
Cons Buggy, Freezes
Summary I am curious if anyone else has had this problem. I purchased the DMR-ES15 based on price and features. The first one worked wonderfully for about 2 weeks, then I recorded 4 to 5 30-minute shows on a DVD+R disk in LP format, removed the disk from the unit without finalizing, and whammo! It would not read any disk, it would freeze randomly, and would have to be force-powered off by holding the power button. The tray would open and sometimes freeze with the tray open. I thought I had gotten a bad unit, so I returned the first one, got a second one, and recreated the same scenario with the exact same result. It would not read anything, and it would freeze while trying to read a disk. After unplugging it for about 30 minutes it would function again, but recreating the same scenario would cause it to go haywire again. The user manual states that you can remove a DVD+R disk without finalizing, but the disk will not be playable in any other player until it is finalized. I eventually returned the second unit because the error was just annoying. With a single disk tray there are countless times that you want to watch a movie before finalizing a 1/2-full DVD+R disk. If anyone else has had this problem I would love to know. I noticed that most of the units in the store where I purchased mine were open items, so I can only imagine that these are just buggy. Of course, I noticed that most DVD recorders in stock in the store had been returned, so maybe bugs are common to all DVD recorders, I don't know. This was my first one.
Pros DV Input , Multi DVD Burning Options
Cons None so far
Summary This unit was simple to hook up and easy to use to record Home Movies to DVD. The front Inputs makes connecting a video camera a snap. Was up and recording in about 10 minutes after opening the box.
Pros Recorded DVDs without a problem with good quality
Cons Would not play my DVD+R DL discs
Summary I bought this player to do basic DVD recording and DVD playback. It claimed to support a wide variety of DVD formats. However, even though it says it supports DVD+R DL discs, it would not accept my Verbatim DL discs that I created with Nero on my computer. It would just say that the DVD had an invalid format. I tried them out on a couple of my friend's DVD players and they accepted them fine. Being able to play these discs is a must for me so I am taking this recorder back, even though it worked well as a DVD recorder.
Pros There is no Pros when it broke so easily
Cons It broken down last week during the middle of recording. It cam up U61 error and since then no matter what disc i insert, it will read as no disc. It makes the same noise 4 lower tones and 1 higher tone. I will never buy Panasonic product anymore.
Summary Search on internet and see what people says about the product before you buy. I never have any product broke so easily. I think Panasonic should recall this product as so many people complaining about it.
