"Solid performer, Great price"3.5 starson by clouthie
Pros: Excellent video quality in XP Mode, Has DV Input! Rewritable RAM format nice for multiple re-recordings
Cons: Can only chapter RAM disks which aren't playable on other manufacurer's DVPs, Editing features could be improved
Summary: For the price (I paid $149 in early Dec) this is among the best deals going. Setup is a snap if you are reasonably familiar with AV hookup already. The remote is easy to use. Function buttons are intuitive (e.g. easy to erase an unwanted title). Recorded picture quality from TV is excellent in XP mode (though not so good for LP mode). VHS and 8mm transfer quality is equally impressive and straightforward, but you'll find it frustrating that you can only chapter them if you keep them on DVD-RAM disks (which aren't readable in other drives) and if you record them in the more widely used DVD-R/DVD+R formats you can't later edit them after finalizing your disks. So you're stuck with an unchaptered version of your memories or a chapter version you can only play in RAM readers. Thank goodness for the 300X search feature! Aside from the aforementioned editing limitations it is a strong contender in the non-HDD recorder market especially considering the reasonable price.
