"STAY AWAY FROM ALL PHILIPS PRODUCTS!!!"
Pros: It worked OK for about 3 months
Cons: It worked OK for about 3 months
Summary: My DVDR985 worked OK for a while (until the 90 day warranty ran out). Then it started doing wierd things like mixing two shows from two different channels together -- a few seconds of one program and then a few seconds of another program. When it does actually record a program, the playback picture skips and jumps. Often I get "disc error" or "no disc" messages (even though there is a disc in the drive. It hangs up in erase mode and I have to unplug the unit to turn it off. I purchased another Philips unit when I purchased the DVDR985 -- it had a VHS Recorder and DVD player. The DVD player worked OK, but the VHS part stopped recording properly after a few months. I have called Philips many times about these two machines. But, since the warranties have run out, Philips won't do anything about the problems unless I PAY for repairs. I'm NOT giving their company any more of my money. A friend also purchased the DVDR985. Fortunately, his stopped working before the warranty period ran out. Unfortunately, the machine has spent much of its "life" in the repair shop. My advice to you is to STAY AWAY FROM ALL PHILIPS PRODUCTS!!!! They are nothing but expensive junk!!!!!!!
