2 out of 2 units - Pause doesn't function correctlyby Scottini - February 14, 2008
Pros: 8 Hour max record feature is a plus and support of multiple video streams(i.e., Divx, MPEG, AVI, etc.)
Cons: Pause feature intermittently supported.
Review:
The pause feature is Non-Op in the record mode. Tested 2 units both have same problem. Use pause in record mode and unit appears to LOCK-Up/Hang/Freeze. Only way to recover is to go through the POWER/Reboot mode. This appaers to be a software problem and so far RCA hasn't bothered to fix the problem. I guess they feel that one user's experience doesn't show cause for a software update to the units in the field. Have more users experienced this problem??

Works greatby mdwi2002 - December 30, 2007
Pros: basic menu, easy to program, upconvert
Cons: slow to start up, unable to edit as much on dvd
Review:
Ive had this for quite awhile now and it works good. DVDs look great on the tv enen though not hd, burns dvds and plays back. I wish it had a better editing program after you burn a dvd. Its slow to start up when powered on which is annoying. The menu is pretty easy to set up and use, and the price is good.

Bad out of box, still waiting for resolutionby Bammbammm - August 28, 2007
Pros: I have no idea since it was bad out of box
Cons: Sadly, it doesn't power on and I'm not the only peson
Review:
I ordered it June 9th of '07, it showed up 2 days later and was DOA. Fine, I can handle that, I call RCA? Thomson for an RMA number. They issued one immediately, but since then, tri-weekly status reports yield nothing but frustration. No replacement unit is available, they don't know when one will BE available and keep asking if I want to wait. To their credit, they offered a replacement model of the 8335, which is worth more, but does not upconvert or have an HDMI output. Thanks, but no. I'm in the process of requesting a refund check from Thomson/ RCA, we'll see how that goes. So far, it has been painful just dealing with customer support, most of the employees speak English poorly and I sit there waiting for them to stumble through the script on the screen. I'm done with RCA, I only recommend them to people who enjoy being frustrated, annoyed, and ignored. For anyone else, I would avoid this product, support is lacking, quality control is obviously an issue based on the other reviews I've seen. I'm going to hold out for another month or 2 and wait for the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray recorders to come down in price.

Works very well but the picture quality is poor with larger hdtvsby hellchild656 - July 17, 2007
Pros: I have had no problems with this dvd player except that there is no compant video in for satelite
Cons: No componant video input just 1 out put
Review:
I really like this dvd play no problems thus far we had to return our dvd vcr combo to Thompson because of problems due to the dvd tray opening up and not wanting to close just a bothersum problem. Otherwise we go this dvd player and it works very well. I own the mitsubish we-65731 and the picture quality for recording is very shameful, but movies thats a whole nother story RCA put some work into this model obiously but if you go out and buy dvd's unlike I do the picture quality is just amazing with these two products put together.

This is my 3rd recorder in a weekby RICHFBEAL - February 28, 2007
Pros: easiest to use
Cons: one has to set the video input everytime you want to record
Review:
Works well so far,,I have recordes a number of disks,,including a dvd-rw,,and it has done them all,,even the erase funtion is pretty fast.and it was only $95.00 at wal-mart,,it has the ability to record in different modes.I have a DVR from my cable provider,,and I can record a dvd to play on my TV at work,,which is a 4-3 format tube type 36 in tv,,plus I can record in the 16-9 format to fit my 40 in samsung lcd tv.and it remembers where you left off on your last recording to create another chapter with your new recording,,so it allows one to save certain videos and delete others on the same disk. For the price,,it does all I want it to do

I love it!by ronbyron - January 31, 2007
Pros: Plays wide assortment of formats (see below).
Cons: Recorded DVDs look great when played back in unit itself, but not quite as good when played back on other DVD devices.
Review:
I've had mine about three months now and no problems at all. Bought it at WalMart for $130+tax. Good upconversion through HDMI or component hookup. Assorted formats including: DVin, DVD, DivX, DigitalPhotview, DTS digital out, Dolby digital recording, WindowsMedia, and CD digital audio. No problem recording to DVD-R or DVD-RW discs. Also, I can place downloaded items from my computer to a DVD and they look great when played back on my HDTV.

Died within two weeks.by john31874 - January 6, 2007
Pros: It looks nice sitting in my entertainment center.
Cons: It doesn't do anything.
Review:
When it worked, it worked OK. Very slow to start up, but it was easy to set up a record time. Recording seemed to be good quality. After only two weeks of use I get nothing but a blue screen. Sound works, but nothing else. Do not buy.
