"Good for the price"on by rrl34x
Pros Price, auto chapter creater, DV input
Cons No VCD, +R, +RW, Mp3 playback
Summary I kept this recorder for 10 days. I bought it as a replacement for my regular player and in place of recording things to VHS. It worked fine. Auto clock/channel set worked great with my regular antenna, played DVD's fine, auto chapter creator worked great(except you had to make them every 5 minutes.) The more I used it I realized that it did most things that other recorders in its price range did. However, for about ten bucks more I got the Panasonic DMR-ES20S and it plays the formats that the Samsung would not.
Good player, a little limited, but if you are willing to shop around you will probably find a recorder that does more for only a little more cost and it is worth it.
Pros It records
Cons Not user friendly
Summary My opinion, it's junk! No built-in battery. Everytime a momentary power interruption happens, you have to go through a new setup as most of the important settings are lost.(Time of day, Channels). I tried plugging this into my computer's UPS but that didn't help either. Also, critical info was missing in user manual when trying to set up for first time. Had to call for tech support.
"Piece of crap"on by moncoeur
Pros Compatible remote with Samsung TV
Cons doesn't last very long
Summary I got this DVDr as a free rebate when I bought a Samsung digital TV. While the TV is great, the DVDr is a piece of crap. After only a few months, it overheats, causing the play of a DVD to freeze. I know it's not the DVDs because it happens on brand new ones and on older ones that work fine on my computer.
Pros it works all others i buy hav never worked
Cons not as well as you would like
Summary only dvd recorder ever bought that workrd this is my third
Pros able to record programs from tv
Cons lip-sync problems and system failures
Summary I have had NOTHING but problems from this DVD recorder. Since day one it has been messing up my programs that I try to record. I once recorded a whole movie only to find out that it did not record anything, but the disc was completely full with information I couldn't get back off the DVD disc. I took the thing to BEST BUY (there's a croc for ya) and they had the thing for 2 weeks, telling me they were going to fix it. I get it back and they told me they send it to Samsung and got a whole new insides put in. I get home and it works exactly as it did before. I will most certainly NEVER buy another item from Samsung or even Best Theif for that matter.
I highly reccommend buying from another more reputable brand such as Pioneer or Panasonic or Sony, cause Samsung truly doesn't know what they are doing with DVD recorders.
And now I see these companies below where I write this and they all gave this DVR 5 stars...I can only believe they were paid to give this kind of rating.
