"Good looking and functional player with some minor but annoying ommisions"
Pros: design, divx with subttitles
Cons: not all codecs, tends to be slow on initial load
Summary: I do not have an HDTV yet so cannot comment on how well the player utilizes it capabilities in that sense, however, I have not noticed a few nice and a few annoying feature which I would like to share:
Takes surprisingly long to open the tray when in power down mode
Does not play VCD
SubRip (.sub) subtitles seem to work, had some problems with .srt, they were out of synch
When set up, automatically changes TV input so there no need to touch tv remote
Seems to recognize non divx as divx but cannot load the movie. The only way to stop it is to power down
6 secs to load divx movie on dvd, 12 on cd
Pretty easy to set up, except for cable box
Interesting feature: zoom in 2x, 4x. Not sure how useful it is thouhg
Photo slide show, no effects though
Tried to play Xvid movies, although it is not supposed to be supported. To my surprise it did play. Granted, after every few seconds it would make a slight pause. Another Xvid did not play. Would be nice if it was fully supported.
I had a home DVD that I burned which did not play well on my older Sony DVD player ? it would show thick green lines on top and bottom. That DVD-R played perfectly on the DVD-R157
Very slick design. One of the thinnest DVDR's I've found
