    "digitally digital"

    by denie77 on October 1, 2006

    Pros: unit looks sharp

Cons: digitally over controling of what you want to do

Summary: nice attractive case houses an overly controlling box of digital flim flam that won't let you record things that you want to record. Too often the unit flashes a message when I hit the record button, telling me that the program I want to record is "write protected" when it isn't a write protected program. I've missed out on a lot of programs because the unit will not record programs. It seems to be too over controlling of what it allows me to see and record. The unit also takes too long a time to initiate it's turn-on sequence which makes you miss out on about the first 60 to 120 seconds of what you are trying to watch when you first turn on the unit. It's a complicated unit that limits much of what you record as well as having long initiation times to prepare to allow you to record and/or just watch a program. It's like the unit is pre-occupied with getting itself ready to limit you on just about anything you want to do. The VCR part of the recorder is a joke as far as I'm concerned...it's not like your old regular VCR because it is so digitally pre-occupied with pre-initiating seguences and digital controls to limit what you can and cannot do that it is easy to get flustrated with it and wish that you never bought the thing in the first place. Before I bought this unit I was told to wait for a year or two so that the manufacturers can get their act together and make units like these more user friendly. But instead I took a chance and bought one anyway and for the price that I paid I don't feel that I got a decent deal.
Buyer beware....wait for a year or two or maby three before purchasing a unit like this in order to give the manufacturers a chance to make the units more user friendly and not so digitally controlling that you are not able to do much with it. If you aren't a rocket scientist then I most certainly cannot reccomend this unit nor any units like this.
