Pros * Easy to use
* On-board LCD screen allows for easy cueing of video sources
* The unit auto-pauses/un-pauses as it detects available video sources to reduce cueuing headaches
* AVCHD format option
Cons * Very limited options to customize DVD menus
* The wizard defaults to a high quality mode (1hr of SD recording on a single layer DVD). Users shouldn't have to go into the settings to change the time/quality. This may be confusing for some.
Summary I am very pleased with this unit. It is very easy to use and delivers good quality results.
The unit's ease of use is primarily driven by the on-unit LCD screen which allows you to cue and verify your source material. Another nice bonus is the unit will automatically pause and un-pause recording based on the availability of a video source. This ensures better cueing and reduces the need to babysit the unit.
My only complaint is the sparse DVD menu that this unit generates. Although it will create automatic chapters at predefined increments (5 minutes, 10 minutes, etc) it does not present those in the home menu. There is only a single menu for each session burned to the disc and for most people they will only burn one session per disc. Users will only be able to advance through the chapters while playing the disc. That remains a minor setback though and reasonable sacrifice considering the unit?s ease of use.
Please note that this unit does enforce copy protection and will refuse to record some copy protected material. I tried to move some old Disney VHSs to DVD and the unit never recognized the incoming video source and wouldn't start recording. This is common to other similar units.
Pros No computer is needed and copy from other video media with standard definition is super easy.
Cons No editing. Have to finalize the disc after recording. Cannot exceed the maxi. time of recording to the disc (say 1 Hour for HQ recording) otherwise the disc will not finalize or fail to recor
Summary Not sure whether it can record to blu-ray disc as haven't the chance to do so yet. Also has to test on whether it can accept third party HD camcorder like Canon or Panasonic.
Pros Very easy to use out of box.
Cons You can't edit your home movies on your Pc or mac! You can't even transfer them to your pc/mac
Summary Great but sucks without editing permissions..Very, very easy to use! Directions do suck but over time you'll get it.
