"Don't waste your money."
Pros: If I could get this unit to work longer than a week at a time, I might have some "Pros" to report. The company I bought it from (Vanns.com) was excellent & a GREAT help in getting the unit replaced. I will definitely buy from them again.
Cons: I bought this unit with an extended warranty - good thing. It worked fine for a short time, then stopped recording DVD's. It never worked properly for more than a week or so. I gave it 1/2 star because they won't let me give it none.
Summary: Soon after purchasing, it stopped recording AND playing DVD's, whether home-recorded OR store-bought. It was still under JVC warranty (parts only). It cost me $125 for labor. I had to argue with the extended warranty company for reimbursement of that expense, to which they finally agreed after I contacted the company that sold me the unit. The repair shop replaced the DVD burner, I brought it home and it worked fine - for about 2 months, when the same problems arose. It had become an expensive VHS-VCR unit.
The JVC warranty was for a year, after which the extended warranty took over. Rather than repeat the aggravation of the 1st time, I waited until the year was up to
try getting it fixed again. Now it's in limbo somewhere. I had to send it, insured & at my expense, to the company that evaluates these issues. A week after it was delivered to them with no contact or response, I called the warranty company. I was told the unit tested defective (duh - I knew that) & that they were "sourcing it for replacement". Meanwhile, I have owned this piece of garbage for over a year and have gotten about 3 weeks of use. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.
