"Very disapppointing"
Pros: Feature set
Cons: Doesn't work
Summary: This has been the worst experience with any electronics product I can remember. The first unit died after one use and I had it replaced. The second unit hangs when finalizing disks.
Panasonic customer service is abysmal. Wait times approach an hour. The rep had me reset the unit to factory defaults which didn't help. He was unable to provide further assistance and hung up on me.
Panasonic online support is inoperable - attempt to submit an online support request produces an error message. Terrible!!!

I got the dmr-es40v as a gift (November 2005) and after spending more time than I would have liked reading the manual, I have had nothing but problems. It constantly freezes up and after the last time, not even a reset would work. I don't want another unit, just my money back. I have reset the unit about 12 times since I got it.

Was there ever a resolution to the lock-up problem ? I just purchased this unit and am experiencing lock-ups. Very frustrating and I don't need more cup coasters.
