"Addicted again..."on by mrees515
Pros - "LendMe" technology
- Free Fridays
- Read for free at B&N
- Easy to use
- Can read my books on other devices if I have to.
- Comfortable to hold/no worries about the spine
- Shelf space
- B&N/Google relationship
Cons I haven't come across anything I wish I could change about my nook.
Summary I didn't really think that I would want to give up "real" books, but my husband bought this for my birthday in September, and I have fallen in love with reading again! We live in a very small house, but now I can have as many books as I want, and I can carry them anywhere! It's great for travelling.
I have enjoyed reading books for free at Barnes and Noble (as well as taking advantage of their Free Fridays), and travelling with my nook has been worlds better than trying to stuff a couple (bulky) books into my luggage. I love using their LendMe technology (saves me a couple bucks!) and am excited to see what becomes of their further relationship with Google and the eBooks Google is putting out.
All in all, I have not been disappointed with my nook at all - it is better than I anticipated! If you love reading, or if you once did, you would do well with a nook.
Pros Both the kindle and Nook have identical displays technology. The display is very good. I like the weight and the paging. It's okay, if un-notable as an ebook reader.
Cons The Nook is slow. The feature that made the contrast between the Kindle and the Nook "stark" was the touch screen keyboard. It is so bad that it's funny. Can you actually type 1 key press per second?
Summary Poor performance. Touch screen is a non-player...even for B&N sales associates! Every sales associate in the B&N kiosk was unable to type faster than 1 keypress per second. The Nook was like an aid for folks that had profound disabilities! Before you buy this *and especially for those that are in a conundrum vis a vis the kindle* just go type on Nook and the Kindle. After that, the contrast is obvious.
Pros I like everything about my Nook. It's easy to use, fast to download, I like how I can now surf the web and get wifi hotspots...the HUGE selection of books available in eBook form with B&N is a huge plus too.
Cons I really don't have anything....ohmaybe a back light. I get that would drain the battery faster, but it might be a convenient feature down the road.
Summary I love it and I am so glad I have it! It's increased my book reading (after having 2 kids who are now toddlers) back up to what it used to be! It's so easy to carry around and as soon as I finish one book, poof! there's the next one!
Pros Great Books, Great in light, color touchscreen (can view book covers), quick downloads, optional (but complicated) library books.
Cons Very short battery life compaired to other e-readers
Summary Wow. I love my nook! I got mine for 115$, not bad considering the all black and white kindle with no touchscreen is 110$. It gets lots of attention among my friends and teachers of amazement on how much the screen resembles a book, and how elegant it is! But, I have a very, very annoying problem. The battery life. I can charge it every three days or so, I never shut it off (because it takes so long to start up, and it really dosnt use that much battery to leave it on), and i leave it in airplane mode, and probably get about 3 hours of reading out of it. My friends kindle, can be charged once a month and be read constantly. But, I think its worth it because I live a hour away from any store and our town library dosnt have a great selection. It is also saving paper, witch is extremely inportant to me. It is incredibly light, compaired to a regular soft cover book. All in all, do buy!
Pros Great way to read books, and tote around a sizeable library in a small container.
Cons Customer service is non-existent. If you have a problem with your Nook and have to return it, you're better off tossing it out of your car window at 70 mph and buying a new one. CSRs are clueless and dishonest at best.
Summary Stay away from the Nook, or pray that you are lucky enough to get one that doesn't need service.
