"Its a real competitor now withe Android OS option"5.0 starson by timh0722
Pros: Great Price, right size, with the recent release of the Android OS, can now download both Amazon and BN books. Also will load some Android apps. I use it now a lot more since I have the freedom to choose from several sources for books.
Cons: Limited to installed Application interface. New Android native OS does not have Marketplace so you have to search around for applications on various sites. Its still a work in progress but much more usable now.
Summary: I bought this last summer at Bed Bath and Be..... during the promotional that reduced the price to 110 with rebate and coupon. It was a spur of the moment purchase and took it home and started using it as a reader. After downloading a couple of books from B&N and trying out the other features thought it was an ok deal for someone wishing to acquire a color reader at a very good price. As I always do, I started to look for ways to extend the installed features with downloads from the various Android sites and was able to get it working as an Android tablet but somethings did not work well. I finished my books and put it away for a couple of months and then brought it out recently and checked the Pandigital support site to see what updates were available since they were grinding them out almost weekly when I was used it the first time. This time, I was amazed to see that they now had a Android native OS download that would make it true Android tablet. I downloaded and installed it and most of the issues I ran into with the earlier hacking were resolved and this time no hacking required. The first thing I did was to download Kindle for Android and Nook for Android. Kindle installed with no problem and I was able to sync my library and download some of my ref guides. The Nook would install but crashed. I almost gave up but found a board where someone had figured out how to change some of OS internals. I ran the steps they had outlined and then Nook installed. Now I have a Tablet with both Amazon and BN books so I have a pretty cool reader that far exceeds the usefulness of the original OS. Along with some of the other apps, its now is a tool I could take on a trip and leave the laptop home. Its cool..
