Supported text formats
While weighing the features between different eBook devices, one of the most important things to consider is what formats your device can display. In addition to user-editable formats like .txt, .doc, and .html, many popular devices support a particular proprietary format that effectively locks you in to a given content provider. Sony's Broad Band eBook (BBeB) format can't be read on an Amazon Kindle and Amazon's AZW format can't be read on a Sony Portable Reader. More devices (and paired content providers) are on the way. The market segment is still quite new and it's too soon to say which formats will be around to stay and which ones will end up like a cherished collection of LaserDiscs.
