"Good external drive; reader broke 1 yr after purchase"
Pros: Good back up for media
Cons: Tech support has not responded to broken reader query
Summary: Bought a WD Media Center in July 2004. Bought the media center to lessen the clutter on my desk. I've downloaded images into the drive flawlessly through the Compact Flash card reader for a year, and the reader just stopped working last week (July 2005) for no apparent reason. The WD website support ensures a response e-mail within 24 hours and I haven't received any response 1 week later.
I'm thankful that the hard drive is still working and am busily backing my files up on DVD in case the hard drive decides not to work.
I'm willing to give WD the benefit of the doubt and purchase another WD hard drive when this one fills up, but my rating is only a 6 due to the lack of response to my plea for help from WD.

I have used the external drive every day for two years. I recently moved & lost my software for the media center. When I emailed support for help I got no reply. I then called them & was told I would have to purchase the software again from them. I will look long & hard before I buy from Western Digital again.

I have a internal WD drive, a 200GB I have had it replaced 3 times, and it still fails. All the WD drives I have fail in less than one year. What is wrong with them WD? They suck pretty bad now.
