"Useless piece of junk!"
Pros: Lots of space, RAID ability
Cons: Not Mac OSX capadible, weak interface
Summary: We both this Terastation thinking it was going to work with our backup software (Retrospect) and found out that it doesn't. We work on Macintosh computers and found out that it won't allow file name conventions larger that 32 characters. So now it just sits there and looks like a cool looking piece of furniture. I would not suggest buying this equipment. Not worth the money, even if it was on sale.

While I also find that "some" Mac users don't want to dig into things, I have a much later model Terastation (late 2008) and I also find it as garbage. Backups fail, error messages are not explained. Just getting to the home page of the internal web based menu system takes about 60 seconds. It takes about 90 seconds to go from one menu page the to next. This thing is landfill and a waste of perfectly good hard disks.

Very odd. I am using this with a Mac right now, and have no issues. The maintenance even cleans up Mac .folder names if I choose. Hey I even can use Safari to access the http admin service (can't say that for may net appliances).
Again, it would be helpful if users would take the time to configure things. I just made a file on Mac connected to a TereStation share called "this is a really long file name and it has lots of spaces in it.jpg" So I'm not sure about the naming issue. (I know, really lame...)
What could you possibly want for a few hundered $$ with 1T Raid 5? -
The problem with MAC users to being with is their general lack of knowledge in all things networking (hence the easy to use mantra they are marketed with). Other protocols are supported by this device that will allow it to support longer filenames. Not to mention that before it goes on sale, it's still a good deal for a lot of space.

It is supposed to be setup for MACs right out of the box.
This States that is is for Windows or Linux, but I didn't see anything for Mac.
Like the guy said, I would buy it off of you for $400 or so. -
better than nothing, ehh?
