"Poor technology, poor design, poor performance"
Pros: helpful, professional & responsive support team
Cons: this design is a total abortion
Summary: I wanted a NAS in a box. Did my homework, and this unit seemed like the ticket. But, when you look under the sheets:
1. Software RAID
2. SLOW performance.
3. Drives are horribly difficult to replace.
4. Uses legacy technology hard drives.
5. Very slow processor.
6. And, to top it off, two of four drives failed in the first two days of operation.
I strongly recommend AGAINST this unit.

I previously wrote a negative review about this product. I am even more convinced today. I just finished configuring a DELL POWEREDGE 840 with a 2TB RAID 5 and Windows 2003. It cost more, BUT, it is 2X as fast with hardware raid instead of Buffalo's software RAID. It uses Windows, not a stripped down version of Linux. It behaves nicely with Vista and XP unlike the Buffalo Unit.
I will never attempt NAS with an appliance again.
