"Excellent, Fast, Reliable Hard Drive"
Pros: Sleek design (fits in well with Macs), Firewire 400, 2 FW 800 Ports, eSata, USB
Cons: Power cord is quite flimsy
Summary: I recently got this hard drive for $275 around Christmas time, and so far it has held up well. Actual capacity is 465GB (all drives are less than advertised), I still have 410GB left on it. It has a steady, quiet operation. When you retrieve a large file, it will make noise, but it isn't loud.
Ports:
I was surprised that it has so many ports on the back. G-Drive Q has 1 FW 400, 2 FW 800's, 1 USB, and 1 eSATA. The USB port is a mini-usb. I use USB and FW400 with my MacBook (FW is faster), and have part of it shared across the network.
Power cord:
The only major gripe I have with the drive is the power cord connection. While it does stay connected with most bumps, I don't have the confidence of knowing when it will fall out depending on which way I bump it. The cord DOES stay in fine (doesn't fall out randomly), it's just the security of it when it gets moved than may concern me.
Operation:
Operating of the drive is excellent. I don't know how to judge quietness of HD's, but this provides a quiet operation. Obviously it makes some noise when a large file is retrieved, but it isn't very loud.
The drive also has a fanless operation with some advertised "radient cooling" from the bottom. While I feel the slightest air coming from underneath it, the "radient" cooling seems just for show, as just the sides of it are the only parts that are open.
I highly recommend this drive. BTW, it works great for Time Machine in Mac OS X Leopard.
