"Fast transfer speeds but more than a little unstable"
Pros: Easy Setup, Fast Access
Cons: Frequent Lockups, Not upgradable, Poor Tech Support
Summary: The LinkStation will perform well most of the time but seems to have trouble locking up or powering down normally when access is suspended, especially from Mac OS or when it's cut off abnormally. These frequent lock ups require the power cord to be pulled and the Link Station rebooted. Transfer speeds are nice with very few pauses. The hard drive seems to spin down which is nice compared to real file servers. The main downside is that lack of upgradability in the way of firmware or the hard drive. Any manipulation will void the warranty. Tech support at Buffalo Tech will respond by email but there is no helpful information rendered. Stick with name brand NAS and avoid the frustration of trying to figure out if it's the network or the LinkStation messing up again.
