Pros Lasted 6 hours.
Cons Unit overheated after about 6 hours use. Stopped working completely. Customer support sends reconditioned unit as replacement. This means I get another previously broken unit. Do not recommend!
Summary Junk. Customer support terrible.
Pros It works well - it does what it should: Stores lots of stuff
Thre connection options: either USB 2.0, FireWire (400 or 800) or eSata
Seems to be resistant against bumps although it doesn't look like it and seems to get scratched easily.
Device gets really hot. Seems to have some cooling issue. That worries me...
Connection ports (when not used) have no protection against dust or liquid.
Summary I kind of prefer the Transcend StoreJet with 500GB which was cheaper (already half a year ago!!)
I bought this device because I TRUSTED THE Cnet review - BEWARE guys - I don't think it deserves all the praising!
Pros It's pretty, the drive seemed to work OK, and of course the FW 800 is lightning fast.
Cons The stupid thing gets HOT and when it does, the front plate begins to detach. Sure, you can keep pressing it down and attempting to reattach it, but the minute it warms up again, it pops up!
Summary Spend the extra few dollars to get either the Western Digital "My Passport" or the LaCie rugged drive. Until IOmega resolves this fatal design flaw, I can never recommend this drive to anyone! Not to mention, IOmega provides almost ZERO support for their product, they give you scripted answers in their support chat and send you a form for you to send the drive back and wait 2-4 weeks for them to send a replacement. Boo!
"Total disaster."on by teachuh
Pros Fine until it wasn't.
Cons Ridiculous overheating problem. Top cover actually pulls away from the unit. Valuable iMovies lost when it just died after maybe 20 hours of being plugged in over 9 months.
Summary I bought 2 of these a year ago, to use 1 at a time for Time Machine backups and iMovie storage. I only recently started using the second one because the first one went belly-up, taking taking 6 months of video of my newborn twins with it. I just spent $550 on data retrieval.
As is often the case here on CNET, the "expert" reviews can't possibly take into consideration actual USE by actual PEOPLE over an actual period of TIME. The unit literally gets so hot you can't hold it. Also, the top cover simply lifts off the unit, because the glue from the DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE that holds it on MELTS. Not a fluke; true of BOTH units I bought.

Pros Nice looking, setup easy
Cons Used it for one day. I had it plugged in and unit was getting very hot even when not using it. It's alot bigger in dimensions than other drives.
Summary I would not recommend due to heat
