"LaCie has some serious quality problems"
on by asheintsPros Looks cool and heavy weight makes you think the device is quality made.
Cons My LaCie external drive broke TWICE during warranty period and then again immideately after warranty expiration. Customer support is difficult to contact (email only) and very difficult to deal with - rude and incompetent.
Summary I'd stay away from all LaCie products. There are many better choices at lower prices.

"DO NOT BUY"
on by leffnerstevePros none, there are no pros to a drive that dies and offers ZERO support
Cons Lacie is terrible at making drives, I purchased two expensive 500 gig drives and BOTH were dead in a year with total loss of data. These drive MIGHT be ok for MAC users, but you use windows STAY AWAY
Summary ANY OTHER DRIVE IS BETTER THAN A LACIE

"Poor qualiy 4/4 drives failed."
on by PorscheGT325Pros They look good
Cons After 3 years, they all failed
Summary Do not buy LaCie

"Filed in 19 days"
on by twy1957Pros RAID Failsafe backup. Massive Cool looking case.
Cons Runs Hot - Constant ON.
Summary Wanted a RAID for failsafe backup of my work files. Funny because no other external drive I have ever used failed. I think it was because of heat, it was constantly ON even when no computer was connected to it.

"avoid LaCie products"
on by LucaFotoPros They look really cool, but that is no reason to buy a hard drive. I chose LaCie because of their supposed Macintosh compatibility.
Cons They do not function straight out-of-the-box. Updating firmware renders the device useless. Tech support is poor.
Summary I've purchased the two big terabyte drive directly from LaCie. When setting up the drive it was unaccessible on my desktop. following the instructions for a factory reset could not recover the drive. Tech support was no help at all. Finally I was able to process a replacement return. The second drive I received mounted on my desktop but after clicking on the prompt to update firmware and completing that process, my drive was rendered unaccessible. Tech support does not have a record of my purchase because it was a return. If you need a network attached storage drive look elsewhere than LaCie. Their customer service and support is inept.
