"Not bad...not great"
Pros: Simple for quick backups, data migration, save your butt type stuff
Cons: Not really good for multiple users with big files, slow file sharing
Summary: We used this to migrate data off of old networks and then connected to new domain to copy data off to new servers. Not bad, but remember this device uses Windows XP Embedded. it has its own internal web server that you use for configuration. It's not too bad and simple for novice users. You can control the device like a regular computer by hooking up a Keyboard, Mouse, and Monitor. Joining a domain this way instead of using the web page is easier and is just like doing it with Windows XP Pro, but remember that XP Embedded has its limitations and is feature rich. For home use this would be perfectly fine for backing up large files off of a home server/workstation, especially if you are under a budget. Regularly apply the Lacie bug fixes, too.
Overall I would agree with the rating and recommend for quick backups, data migrations, and home/small office use. Remember, the stock unit is just a single IDE drive so you aren't going to get massive I/O performance for multiple users. If you want that sort of performance, look toward RAID5 capable NAS units.
