"Unusable without connecting to internet"
Pros: It's a network drive.
Cons: The Lacie manual says you can setup and use it without an internet connection. Truth is you can't setup the drive without connecting to their online server. After setup, you can't maintain users or passwords without connecting to their online server.

"Inexpensive media server, but lacks quality"
Pros: Linked with itunes; shares could be mounted as volumes on mac desktop for easy file transfer (occasionally this feature wouldn't work...I still don't know why)
Cons: No sleep mode - maybe that's why this, like the previous EDmini I owned, failed after a year. For mac users, dealing with pc-like file name restrictions was a problem. Many music files had to be renamed before they would transfer to the Lacie.

Pros: Sturdy construction
Cons: Installation with accompanying CD failed, resulting in no way to register the drive on LaCie's online server, HipServ. If the drive isn't registered with this server, it cannot be accessed! Going to Customer Support resulted in an ignored "ticket."
