Pros: Solid built, good design, embedded USB cable

Cons: Inconsistent speed and very heavy

Summary: When someone told me that the LACIE 301891 Starck is solid, I refused to believe. I was finally coerced by a set of friends into buying this product because all of them own it. It is indeed solid and looks like it can withstand a fall or two on the floor. This happened a numerous times to someone I know and he says that he lost his data one fine day!! Its claims dont obviously mean it can stand unlimited number of falls!! Drives are bound to fail but if you are lucky and can use them carefully they do work a long time. However, the drive?s design needs a special mention here, very different from the rest. The embedded USB cable is really a good idea because I don?t have to carry a USB cable around. There have been instances when I simply forgot to pack the USB cable while on tours. It wasnt a hassle. But the file transfer rates are very inconsistent and the drive is very heavy too.
