"If Maxtor is good enough for Dell it is good enough for me."
Pros: Just about Everything!
Cons: Gets a little warm if left on for extended periods.
Summary: Before I looked at external harddrives I did alot of research and Maxtor is the largest manufacturer of harddrives. Do a search on this site by manufacturer it makes 343 different harddrives verses I think it is in the tens by the nearest competitor. My Dell has a Maxtor hardrive so how bad can they be I said to myself? I have had mine for a long period of time so I have no clue what some of the reviewers are complaining about.
Maybe because I only power up my Maxtor when I either have to add to or subtract data from it. Some people who have given this negative reviews leave it on constantly. My question is why? It is intended for storage in order to keep your main harddrive free so the main harddrive works faster and does not get bogged down searching unnecessary storage data looking for what it needs to accomplish a task.
That means less fragmented files for my computer to search. I am just a novice but it seems to me that makes sense because it is easier to search 2 filing cabinets than it is to search 300 filing cabinets seeking out necessary data to accomplish a task, which that is all our computers are anyway, electronic filing cabinets according to the tutorial in "Getting to understand how your computer works in Computers for Dummies, LOL".
